This course discusses the promotion of positive communication between the clinician and the patient, with a focus on appropriate management of some common clinical concerns, such as dealing with the hostile patient, giving advice, and providing reassurance. 

Objectives

Course Objectives:
1. To provide an overview of ways to promote positive communication in a clinical setting.

Discuss ways of dealing with difficult clinical situations, such as management of a hostile patient.
3.
Define the potential pitfalls and difficulties of giving advice and reassurance, and providing systematic approaches that will increase the likelihood that this is done effectively.

Discuss the elements that make up successful communications, including not only verbal content, but tone of voice and body language.
